Why work with me?

Qualified

With a Masters of Clinical Psychology, Honours of Psychological Science, and a behaviourist background, I am well-equipped and experienced to provide psychological therapy. I am a registered psychologist with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Compassionate

My core values are openness, freedom, and growth. I am committed to deeply understanding people and the complexities of the human experience. I strive to positively impact society, starting with connecting with and supporting individuals on a personal level. A safe therapy space leads to greater openness and trust during sessions.

Human Experience

Throughout my life, I have witnessed the mental health challenges faced by families, friends, and coworkers. Having personally experienced various life transitions and the behavioural difficulties accompanying them, I am eager to understand all aspects of the human experience and help people navigate these challenges in a supportive environment.

Background in Behaviourism

Before pursuing psychology, I underwent dog training while serving in the Royal Australian Air Force. Witnessing the effectiveness of behaviourism sparked my curiosity about how psychology could be used to enhance mental health, meaning in life, performance, and overall human experience for myself and others. This background is uncommon among clinical psychologists, and I leverage this unique knowledge to enhance my services.

Knowledgeable

I am across several evidence-based approaches and have undergone specialised training to help clients navigate several mental illness disorders. I have a diverse range of knowledge and experience from private practice therapy and prison mental health services, working with other highly experienced psychologists, meaning I am well-equipped to provide mental health support for individuals from a broad range of backgrounds.

In the heart of every struggle lies an opportunity for growth. My mission is to guide you through these moments towards a life of fulfilment.

Clinic Specialties

Anxiety

Anxiety management is essential for leading a balanced and fulfilling life. Developing practical coping skills can significantly reduce stress levels, leading to improved focus and productivity. Through personalised strategies and support, you can learn to navigate anxiety, boost mental clarity, and achieve a more peaceful and productive life.

Depression

Whether depression is constant or seasonal, I aim to uncover the underlying issues and work with you to create a personalised plan. Together, we'll develop coping skills to reduce symptoms and enhance overall mental health.

Porn Addiction

Receive expert help in breaking free from addictive behaviours such as porn addictions that negatively impact relationships and daily functioning. We work together to recognise the problematic pattern of porn addiction and then address underlying issues, rebuild relationships and shift the focus to something else to promote a fulfilling life.

Borderline Personality Disorder

BPD presents itself in many different ways in young adults and requires emotionally focused therapy sessions that focus on creating coping skills to navigate the highs and lows. Our sessions focus on fostering personal growth and emotional regulation. Treatment often includes cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT).

Relationships

From family troubles to commitment concerns and couples therapy, I am experienced in addressing various mental health challenges related to relationships. I offer empathetic listening and guidance to help navigate the difficulties of relationships and life transitions.

Psychosis/Schizophrenia

Psychosis is a debilitating disorder that, when not addressed, can cause further mental damage. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is often used in this situation to create a variety of coping skills to help those with the disorder and to manage difficult situations.

Stress

Much like anxiety, stress can present itself in multiple ways that impact the everyday lives of those experiencing it. Stress needs to be managed to increase personal well-being and live a more fulfilling life. Using a therapeutic approach to address stress levels has proven to be an effective method of reducing symptoms of stress.

PTSD

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) focuses on overcoming traumatic memories and developing a natural resilience towards the disordered topic. We develop coping mechanisms using various methods during our psychology sessions and commonly use acceptance and commitment therapy with PTSD clients.

Phobias

Therapy sessions work to reduce anxiety and fear responses, improve coping strategies, and increase the ability to confront and manage feared situations. Clients who develop practical coping skills may experience increased confidence and a more fulfilling engagement with previously avoided activities.

Men's Counselling

Enter a therapeutic relationship that focuses on breaking the stigma of men's mental health. I offer compassionate listening without judgement, primarily focus on providing therapy for males, and offer psychological flexibility for those new to treatment.

DVA/Military

I have a background in the Royal Australian Air Force and a deep understanding of the struggles and challenges that come with this occupation. I am dedicated to addressing the mental health issues that can arise due to the nature of the job, and I use multiple therapy approaches to improve the well-being of ex-military servants.

Get in touch
What should I expect during my first session?

Your first session is an intake designed to see if we're a good fit and for me to understand what you're going through. We'll discuss your goals, challenges, and how we might work together moving forward, if you think that I'm the right psychologist for you.

How long does each therapy session last?

Each session is scheduled for 50 minutes. This duration provides ample time to explore and work through your concerns in depth, ensuring a thorough and unhurried process.

Can I choose the type of therapy I receive?

While you may have preferences or ideas about what type of therapy might suit you, the approach will be collaboratively determined to ensure it best meets your needs. Guidance will be provided to select the treatment that aligns with your goals and treatment plan, ensuring the most effective path to your well-being.

Do you provide reports?

Yes, ADHD assessments are available, along with comprehensive reports for NDIS, WorkCover, Medicare, and DVA, as required under these funding schemes. This ensures tailored support and documentation for your needs.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies greatly depending on individual needs, goals, and the nature of the issues being addressed. Some may progress significantly within a few sessions, while others might benefit from longer-term support. This will be reviewed continuously to ensure your therapy aligns with your evolving journey.

Do you provide a telehealth option?

Telehealth counselling is available on request. Before your session, you will be provided with a link, and all fees and processes remain the same.

Do I need a mental health care plan?

No, this is optional. However, having a mental health care plan can, in certain cases, reduce the costs associated with your counselling services. However, it's always best to speak to your general practitioner or referring doctor about the best way for you to access the counselling you need.

What if we're not a good fit?

That's totally okay – this doesn't mean you can't access the help you need. Clinical psychologists often have areas that particularly interest them, or where they feel most comfortable, and I can help recommend one of many other Brisbane psychologists who might be able to help you better.
