When to seek counselling

Counselling isn’t just for crises; it can benefit anyone facing life challenges. It's a fact that Australian men are less likely to seek help for mental health conditions than women, demonstrating the underlying stigma that is still apparent today. Our sessions focus on breaking the silence surrounding men's mental health, fostering a supportive environment where men feel empowered to share their emotions and seek help when needed.

Common reasons men seek counselling include managing career pressures, dealing with high personal expectations, and striving for balance in life. For some, it’s about finding a safe space to discuss life and relationships without judgement. Whether it’s for guidance, support, or simply having someone to talk to, there’s no wrong reason to reach out. Men’s counselling can create a foundation for long-term well-being, offering strategies to navigate life’s challenges more effectively.

What do the counselling sessions look like?

Sessions are tailored to your pace and focus on your individual goals. Men's mental health often requires a specialised approach that emphasises building a positive relationship with the counsellor. This environment fosters openness and helps navigate the complexities of expressing emotions.

We work collaboratively to identify an approach that best suits you, recognising that what works for some may not resonate with you. Our counselling services are tailored to meet your unique needs and preferences, ensuring a personalised experience that addresses your specific challenges.

Here at Brendon Wright Psychology, the approach we use may include the following:
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Acceptance and Commitment therapy
  • Dialectical Behavioural Therapy
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing
  • Schema Therapy
  • Internal Family Systems
  • Gottman Method
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Assessments

Don't overlook your mental health — it's time to prioritise your wellbeing

Men's mental health is equally important as anyone else's, and finding the right support can enhance your well-being and pave the way for a brighter future. Engaging with a men's counsellor can foster stronger relationships and help you better understand your emotions, leading to meaningful positive change.

Get in touch
Do you offer online counselling?

Telehealth is available upon request; however, I believe counselling often works better when we are in the same room.

What other counselling services do you offer?

We offer a wide range of counselling services tailored to support your unique needs, including couples therapy, PTSD support, assistance with addiction and more. Our psychological services are designed to help improve your well-being and quality of life.

What's the difference between counselling and men's counselling?

Men's counselling services address the unique challenges young men often face, which can be overlooked. As someone who has personally experienced the dismissal of mental health concerns, I aim to support male clients in understanding their lives, relationships, and emotions—areas that often go unexplored.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no set number of sessions that a person needs to feel results. The number of sessions varies based on individual needs and goals, and we can reassess this as you progress.

What if I don't know how to express my feelings?

This is a common trait among men, so our men's counselling services aim to explore your feelings at your own pace in a safe environment, judgement-free.

What can I expect during my first session?

In your first session, we’ll discuss your reasons for seeking counselling, set goals, and establish a comfortable environment for open dialogue.
